WildPosh presents WP2 research at VI EU Green Week

The University of Novi Sad Faculty of Sciences, a key partner in the WildPosh project, participated in the VI EU Green Week event titled “Circular Solutions for a Competitive EU - Green Week in Lublin. Air, Earth and Water - a Walk Among Elements.” This gathering brought together researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders to explore pathways for a sustainable and resilient Europe.

During the event, the University of Novi Sad Faculty of Sciences presented results from WildPosh’s Work Package 2 (WP2), which investigates pesticide toxicity in non-bee pollinators. Specifically, the team shared findings on the acute toxicity of two widely used pesticides - cypermethrin and tebuconazole - in the hoverfly species Eristalinus aeneus.

This research stresses a critical gap in pesticide risk assessments, which traditionally focus on honeybees while overlooking the vulnerability of other essential pollinators. By presenting empirical data on hoverfly sensitivity, the team highlighted the importance of expanding pesticide evaluation to include a broader range of pollinator species. These findings directly support WildPosh’s goal of developing new model organisms to improve environmental risk assessment frameworks.
