WildPosh featured in REA article on safeguarding pollinators
The WildPosh project has been highlighted in a recent article published by the European Research Executive Agency (REA), which underscores the urgent need to reverse the decline of wild pollinators across Europe. The article discusses the growing body of EU-funded research supporting the European Commission's New Deal for Pollinators, a policy framework aimed at halting biodiversity loss and restoring pollinator populations by 2030.
Pollinator decline, driven by habitat loss, land-use change, and chemical exposure, poses a serious threat to European biodiversity, food security, and human wellbeing. In response, the EU is investing in projects that deepen scientific understanding and inform policy to protect wild pollinators.
WildPosh is contributing to this effort by improving how the risks posed by pesticides to wild pollinators are evaluated. The project takes a multi-actor, transdisciplinary approach and is conducting extensive fieldwork in Germany, England, Estonia and Spain - countries that represent key European climatic zones. By capturing regional differences in pesticide exposure across diverse landscapes and pollinator communities, WildPosh is helping to close existing knowledge gaps in current risk assessment models.
WildPosh joins other EU-funded projects such as Safeguard and RestPoll, as well as sister project PollinERA, all working to secure a future for Europe’s vital pollinator species.
